Hello, Hello...anyone out there? I'm BBBAACCKK. Hello world. Well, actually-hello Meme! Just wanted to update everyone and post pictures. Good grief, lots has happened since the kids had bathing suits on their heads and Madeline had a kitchen towel around her neck. To sum up: Michael went to work for a bunch of Catholics (sort of), Spencer started preschool, Spencer had parties at school, Madeline bumped her head, we picked out and carved pumpkins, we went trick o treating and then well...the pictures say it all.
Michael is coaching at Marist High School. It's a beautiful campus and Michael really likes the football staff.
Spencer started preschool 3 times per week and LOVES it. He loves being the line leader, loves talking about snack time and comes home singing new songs. It is definitely a positive change for him. With Spencer being in preschool Michael and I also got a chance to go to some parties. Michael went to Donuts with Dad and I went to Spencer's halloween party. Next up in a my FIRST teacher conference being a mommy and then the thanksgiving fest!
Then there's Mads. Delicate, graceful flower that she is tripped over Hailey and grazed the last step of our CARPETED stairs. I thought, "no biggie-she didn't even cry". WELL...the next day her head was swollen and then more swollen the next day. So, we spent the day at the doctors office just to find out that she is fine and one tough cookie.
We also picked out pumpkins and carved a pumpkin. See the post below for the pictures. Spencer was digging it but Madeline was not too crazy about the whole pumpkin thing this year.
Finally, we got to trick o treat. Spencer thought Halloween was FANTASTIC this year and really got into it. We had a blast trick or treating and then hanging out at the house and handing out candy.
SOOO-as you can from Spencer's picture-it's been a WILD ride and we are finally resting (see Spencer). At least for a few weeks, until the holiday craziness begins. YYIIPPEE!

So-as summer comes to an end and we think about returning to school, we will do anything for a few last laughs! No, Michael and I were NOT drinking and YES-that is a dishtowel tied around Madeline's neck. The girl is fashion forward! She WILL be the next Design Star.
No really, we have had a FANTASTIC summer. Michael and I have really enjoyed being home with the kids and with each other. Spencer went to camp at Cannon Church and LOVED it. He will go to preschool 3 days a week there starting in September. Madeline had a set of tubes put in her ears to help with ear infections and fluid build up. She did great with the surgery. Mad as a hornet when she was coming too but other than that-did great. The kids will go back to Ms. Anne's next week and Michael and I will go back to school. I guess all good things must come to an end...

AAAHHH...summertime. Time to relax, unwind....chase small children around in circles. I can't believe it's been TWO MONTHS since I posted anything here. Crazy times. We are all doing well. Spencer and Madeline are growing like weeds and Michael is almost done with his course work for Graduate School. We are both so happy to be off for the summer (well, mostly off for the summer) but I promise to do better about posting pictures and videos of the kids. Hope all is well. OH-see the post below for some pictures. It's a whole bunch of pictures all the way back to Spencer's birthday and our recent trip to the "beach" and NO we did not see any oil-thank goodness.

Hope everyone had a fabulous Easter. Our Easter was very fun. Full of egg hunts and dying a few Easter eggs. This year, Spencer was so excited about the Easter bunny and couldn't wait to see what was in his Easter basket. There was a Thomas the train in his basket-which he LOVED. The Easter bunny was SO excited about bringing Maddy a Raggedy Ann doll. Look closely at the third picture-she would have NOTHING to do with Raggedy Ann and threw her away like the rag doll that she is! She wanted her brother's Lightening McQueen instead-GEESH!!
Both kids are doing fantastic. Spencer is talking so much right now and what to know what everything is and how everything works. He LOVES "helping" his daddy with projects around the house. And Madeline-ah, that girl, I tell you...she amazes me every day! When she hears the phone ring, she holds up ANY object handy and starts talking like it's a phone-AMAZING

Three Ring Circus

Sometimes I feel like I'm the Ringmaster at a Three Ring Circus. "Come one, come all to the Big Top at the Day House!" I have my lion (Hailey) and my trick dog (Hershey). What tricks does Hershey do? Well, let me tell you-she does a mean "PLAY DEAD" trick and she is fabulous at the "Hershey, STAY!" command! I have my clown-Michael and his little person counterpart-Spencer. They are always up to no good and always very entertaining. My Lion jumps right in the middle of the clown antics and always seems to entertain everyone and boy does that Lion jump on her prey when it's feeding time!! Then there's the baby elephant-Madeline. Getting her dressed in the morning is like wrestling a baby elephant to the ground. Unlike Hershey, she has NO IDEA what the STAY command means. I can almost hear her thinking, "SURGERY?? I LAUGH at surgery...What else you got?" Then there's me-the ringmaster, surrounded by all the chaos and trying my darnest to keep order. Very rarely does the ringmaster win because, on any given night, you will usually find the ringmaster, the lion, the clowns and the elephant in a big heap of laughter on the bed. Good thing the trick dog does what SHE'S told!

Hi All-
So we are a week post op and Madeline is doing fantastic (well, except for last night-when she was up with a fever and very grouchy. We think it's ears and are going in to have it look at shortly). Anyway-other than that-she is doing so well. Both of her eyes are completely open and the swelling has gone down tremendously. She has been a real trooper and I can't believe how quickly she has bounced back. There are so many people that I have to thank. I have to thank my parents for coming up here and especially MeMe for staying the week to help Madeline heal. I have to thank Michael's parents. Big Daddy went to appointments with me and helped us transport kids back and forth. But mostly, I have to thank everyone that's reading this. I was humbled by the number of people praying for Madeline and I believe it was those prayers that carried Madeline through the surgery and now into recovery. Lastly, the doctors and nurses and support staff at Scottish Rite were stellar. They took such good care of Madeline and of us and they truly care about the kids they treat. I told all our nurses that I loved each one of them but I never wanted to see them again (unless it was at the grocery store!). So, my Maddy is going to be fine and she can get back to being Maddy...
The night before the surgery, I talked to God and told him that he would just get Maddy through this and give her back to me that I would take such good care of her. Well, he lived up to his side of the deal-so now I guess it's my turn!

Hello all-hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day. I can't think of a better way to spend LOVE day than with the people I love. Here are a few pictures from SNOW STORM 2010, from my birthday and from Madeline discovering PUFFS. Since she started with the puffs, she has decided that all baby food is gross and wants to eat small bites of everything else-fruit, veggies, crackers and of course puffs. We thought about giving her steak but decided we would wait a few more weeks. :-)
Her surgery is scheduled for Feb. 25th so we are spending lots of time praying and finding peace and sharing hugs and looking forward to Spring when the flowers and the children will bloom brightly...Enjoy the pictures...they were made with LOVE.

It's friday afternoon and I'm waiting for the bell to ring so I can leave school and race home to finish getting ready for the Christmas Party. Yes, Leslie and Elizabeth-I am supposed to be working but it's the friday before winter break and I'm sure you guys are doing the same thing I am!! :)
I know many of you are disappointed that this post has no pictures attached and very soon I will sit down and post some recent pictures of the adorable little people that live at my house but for a couple of minutes I just want sit and wish every one a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year....

I can't believe that 2009 is over. It has been an exciting year and a year full of changes. The addition of Madeline to our family has been such a blessing. As I look back through last year's blogs...I came across one where I talked about holding Spencer and telling him that everything would be ok. I remember thinking, "How will I ever love this second child as much as I love Spencer?" I think that's why God makes babies so cute and he made Madeline especially cute-because my goodness do we love that girl!!! She is so full of life and happiness. It's hard not to smile when you see her. And Spencer-taking it all in stride-happy as a Lark!!

I'm so thankful for my life, for my husband and for my healthy babies...what did I do to deserve all this? So-if we don't see you before Dec. 25th-Merry Christmas and we love you all....May 2010 bring you lots of laughter and love.

The Wild Monkey

I adore these two pictures especially the one with a big smile. I love these pictures for several reasons...first-Meme was holding Madeline and making her giggle and I cherish the time that Meme and Poppy get to spend with my children. Second, I just love that towel-it was a present from a very old friend. Not a friend that really old, but a friend that I've known a long time and every time I put Madeline in that towel-I think about her and our childhood. Lastly, that Madeline...she is a "character" as Meme says. Meme says to watch out...when she gets mobile-you won't be able to make her be still. She has given up her 10:00 PM bottle-which was really the only time that she would snuggle with anyone and I'm a little sad about that but she is growing and healthy and strong. She loves her brother and Hailey. The doctors think she has a funny shaped head-I'm beginning to think that's just Maddy and that's how it's going to be. Half the time she looks at you like, "Where's the party??" and the other half of the time she looks around like, "I'm the pearl and this world is my oyster." I can't wait to see what she becomes....

Pumpkin Time

So-it's that time of year again. Time to put some sort of pumpkin creation in our big urns out front. So, Michael and I loaded up the kids and decided to check out a few pumpkin places, planning to end up at the pumpkin patch. Well...it was so cold and rainy yesterday that I told Michael to just drop us off and go to the pumpkin patch and get two, big pumpkins. I thought we would just have one, big pumpkin in each urn and that would get the job done this year. WELL-I'd say that Michael completed his mission! Our new motto-"Go big or go home!" Pumpkin pie anyone??

Wild Things and Doctor's visits

So, I realize that it's been a month since I posted anything on here and I am really sorry. Seems like there is always something to do with two kids! Everyone is good and we are enjoying having some cooler weather up here! It's still so good to see the sunshine-last week-I thought we would have to build an ark or find someone that could because of all the rain.
Spencer is such a character these days. He is trying his best to act "2" with the occasional meltdown but he is generally a really good kid. He loves to "tackle" his Daddy these days and roll around on the ground with him. Lately, when I tell him "no" he knows he will get in trouble if he says "no" back so he just growls at me. I've tried my hardest to get it on video or a picture but he is such a little stinker...anyway-I tell him, "wild thing-I love you so!" His language has really started coming out. Tonight he told me, "No mommy, that's not a little bus, that's a big bus!" Genius, pure genius I tell you.
Madeline (aka the moose) went to the doctor today for her 4 month appointment today. She is in the 99% for both height and weight. My girl has got some thighs-no doubt! She weighs 16.7 lbs (aka the moose). Her head is on the petite side (go figure!). This, of course, worries me a little but the doctor said not to worry-we will keep an eye on it and it will continue to grow. The doctor told Madeline today, "Do you know your only 4 months old? Your acting like a 6 month old!" Madeline did show off a bit today-she babbled to Dr. Sheth and rolled over both ways. So, developmentally she is right on target. She did have a double ear infection. No idea where that came from because she ran no fever or acted like she cared. She continues to be such a happy, content baby and loves watching her brother.
So...here are a few recent pictures to enjoy. I love Spencer's face in the first picture. He thinks that Hailey and Madeline are the funnest things ever! Notice Madeline's finger in one of them...that's what she thought of the South Carolina game!

Busy, busy, busy

So, it's been a few weeks since I'vd put anything up here. We have been very busy! As most of you know I kinda switched jobs...just added more time with the school system, so I have been trying to get settled into a new school. Michael has been busy with football and grad school work and the kids have just been along for the ride! They are both doing so well...Spencer loves going to Ms. Anne's to be around all of his friends and Madeline is just such a easy baby. Yes-she's a spitter just like her brother but hey-she's healthy and happy-so we'll live with the spit for a little while. Here are some recent pictures...Oh yeah-I don't know WHERE Madeline gets that pouty lip from! Hehehe

This time of year....

This time of year, this time of year...yep, it's football season. As Kate says-I become a football widow. I sorta of become a single mom and let me tell you, I have a new found respect for single moms or mamas who's husbands work and/or travel all the time. At least I get my husband back in time for Christmas. But, this time of year...well it's kinda of special to me. I get to watch my husband turn into a football coach once again. The first few days before practices begins he runs around the house getting his "gear" together. He gets it all organized and in the right place so he can grab and go. The first few weeks before the first game are long....long practices and no game on Friday makes for a long week but then we get in the groove...late practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...home early on Thurs and then YEAH-GAME DAY on Friday. Michael always teases me because I NEVER made it for kick off before we had kids and now I KNOW I'll never make it for kickoff now, but that's what happens when you have kids I guess....
So we get to game day, the game has already started and I search the sidelines or press box for that tall, blond man that is my husband...there he is-this year he's in maroon and gold. Sometimes if I'm not too late, he'll be searching the crowds to find us and I always stand to give a wave. I usually get a wave or a head nod back but it's always a smile-that smile that I fell in love with some 11 years ago.
To watch someone you love do something that they love DEARLY is truly a blessing. To see Michael become a football coach every year is a blessing. Yes, it's a little harder with two kids and Spencer will say, "Daddy, football?" but it's so worth it. Last year there was a championship and after everything that has happened in the last few years-Michael deserved that. I will never forgot running up to him after the game. We just looked at each other and there were tears. I don't know if there will be a championship this year but that doesn't matter. Just to see him coach is better than another ring in my book.
The first year I dated Michael, he was a student assistant for the Ole Miss Rebels. A good friend of mine went to most of the games with me. At the first game-Michael ran out on the field. Barbara took one look at my face and sighed heavily. She said, "It's over. You're done. There will be no one else." I told her she was crazy and to leave me alone and then she quoted a movie. I will never forget this line and think about that quote about this time every year. "He's just a man on a horse, baby girl. Nothing more. Just a man on a horse." I love this time of year....

Madeline's 2 month appointment

We went to see the doctor yesterday for Madeline's 2 month appointment. She weighed 13 lbs and 11 oz. She has gained 2 pounds in a month! She was 25" long and has grown an inch and a half in a month! So she was 98% for height and 92% for weight. My big, strong girl!! Her head remains a normal size-not huge like her brother. Everything else looked great-we are going to try some cereal in her bottles to slow down the spit up...we'll see what happens! I used rice cereal in Spencer's bottles and it didn't lessen the spit up-just slowed it down so you could catch it faster!
I don't want to curse it but Madeline spent through the night last night-I mean REALLY slept through the night-she had a bottle around 10, went down around 10:30 and I didn't hear from her until 5:30 this morning-which is about the time I am going to have to get up anyway when school starts. She is such a great baby. I am so lucky to have two beautiful, healthy children...
I go back to work next week (boo-hoo!) and Spencer and Maddy go back to Mrs. Anne's. I think Spencer is secretly thrilled about this...he wakes up in the morning asking to "go, go, go" and then starts asking: "go see Meme??" "go see Poppy?" "go see Kate?"

The Lord's Day

I know...I did these posts backwards-so scroll down and read from the bottom up! Anyway-on Sunday-we had Madeline baptized at Glenn Memorial Methodist Church on the Emory Campus. We chose that church because that is Dr. David Jones' church. Dr. Jones and his father go way back with the Day family and he is an outstanding minister. His sermon the day of the baptism was excellent and it's almost as if God wanted us to be there that day to hear that specific message...basically get out of God's way and let him take control. If you don't-you might just miss something!
Madeline had the honor of wearing the Pela (my mom's side of the family) baptismal gown that was first worn when Abe Lincoln was president and the underdress came from a parachute that my mom's dad used when he bailed out of his plane in WWII. Lots of history and I am so honored to be able to pass that on to my children.

Anna Lauren rolls into town

So Mary Martin arrived on thursday and Matt, Mandi and Anna Lauren arrived on friday for a long weekend. It was so great to have them in town and for all the "1st round of cousins" to get to play together. We loved having them here and hope we can all be together again very soon! Mary Martin Thornton (aka Madeline's partner in crime) arrived last thursday and weighed 8lbs and 13 oz. She looks JUST like her brother and can already wear a bow in all that thick black hair....yes, I'm just a tad jealous that Madeline is a little "hair impaired" at the moment, but Mary Martin is beautiful! Kate pushed for approximately 10 mins (whatever-overachiever!) and Mary Martin arrived without any complications! We are so blessed to have healthy babies all the way around!

Trip to Gulfport

I was so excited to take Spencer and Madeline home to meet their great grands! We had a great time visiting with Maw-Maw, Paw-Paw and Robbie and I got to visit with my dear friend Wendy. Spencer loved going for a ride with Poppy in the golf cart and Maddy had a great time with her new "friend"....a plush red cross that came from Meme office. I don't realize how much I miss the coast, my extended family and the water until I get down there...

So life has been pretty exciting around here lately. First, some of you know but I wanted to post this for everyone else: Madeline had her 1st month appointment last Friday. She weighed 11 lbs and 11 oz and was 24 in long. That means that she has gained 2 lbs and 1 in in the last month. Like Meme says, "that's what happens when you feed them!" and boy does she get fed. That girl likes to eat and you better not get between her and food when she is hungry. I guess she thinks we are going to let her starve. Everything else at the doctor was perfect. Her head grew too but is still smaller that her bowling ball for a head brother at this age! Anyway-like I said everything else was perfect and the doctor answered all of my questions, even the irrational ones. All the pediatricians at our doctor's office know that I'm a SLP and know that I know just even to make me stupid-so they tolerate me. So, Maddy is a healthy growing girl and for that I'm thankful!
Life at home has been a typical lazy summer with two kids (I guess!). Spencer's new favorite book is "Green Eggs and Ham" and actually anything Dr. Seuss lately. Which I adore but he is particular fond of Green Eggs right now. He pretends to eat the eggs off the page and names all the things in the book. He is also the poster child for bug repellent these days. He LOVES being outside to survey the backyard with Hailey. The only problem is that the bugs love him. We make sure to COVER him in bug spray, I stick fabric sheets in his pockets and we have citronella candles out there but nothing helps. He just ends up sticky as heck,smelling like a clean towel AND has some bug bites. The only thing left to do is put him in a bubble because keeping him inside all day is NOT an option!
Madeline is so fun. She is picking up her head and looking around. She likes to look at the lights and loves being on her daddy's chest. She even has a birthmark on the side of her ribcage in about the same spot as her daddy but on the opposite side. We are so proud of her because she burps like an Ole Miss Frat boy and what comes out the other end...WOW! It sounds like we loaded her up with jet fuel and she is going to propel herself into the atmosphere. We are so proud of our delicate little flower. So if you see an UGPB (unidentified giant pick bow) flying through the night sky, well, that's just our little Madeline and she has completed her mission.
So-I must go now-Spencer just came in with TWO new bug bites-ON THE BRIDGE OF HIS NOSE!! Really-the one place I didn't get the bug repellent. Anybody know where I can find a bubble suit?

Another Saturday Night....

So, last night Michael and I loaded up the KIDS (plural-still weird!) and headed down to Decatur to play with Kate, Jim and James. Thanks guys for letting us crash your saturday afternoon! The boys had fun playing and we even managed to get a picture with 3 out of 4 of Meme and Poppy's grandkids. It dawned on us that Meme and Poppy are about to have FIVE grandchildren!! WOW-that's a lot in two years! Anyway-we all had a good time and for those of you that don't know-SUPER WHY! is Spencer's favorite show and I watch at LEAST two episodes every day. Now, MY children were NEVER going to sit and watch tv for hours on end and if they did I was certainly going to be right beside them to TALK about what they were watching and make it more interactive-to get some language out of it. Well-that's the B.S. I have been feeding my speech therapy clients for YEARS-if your child is watching TV-make it interactive-what a load of YOU KNOW WHAT!! Anyway-Spencer loves SUPER WHY and I must admit-it's a really good show for him to like. He can now recognize his letters and all of the stories are based on classic stories like Little Red Riding Hood. I'm ok with him watching it-what's so funny is that Michael and I talk more about SUPER WHY! than we do about the shows we love. It's very sad, really but we feel like the main characters are our friends as well and notice crazy little things about the show like the fact that "Alphapig" always gives a "big thumbs up"- who knew that pigs had thumbs?? or that Whyatt does "jazz hands" before he turns into SUPER WHY? So the next time you find yourself with a "super big problem" call on the Super Readers!!! Super Readers to the rescue!!!

....to bring you some breaking news! At approximately 10:00 AM this morning a very apprehensive mother was spotted taking her TWO children out of the house and into the world ALL BY HERSELF. The woman looked a little rough around the edges and hadn't managed to get much make up on but boy did her children look cute! The entourage was weighted down with an enormous diaper bag filled with snacks, diapers, a change of clothes, wipes, pacys and matchbox cars. The entourage was seen entering a local establishment that does haircuts for kids. Surprisingly, the mother was very calm and managed to get both kids into said establishment without causing any wrecks or chasing a child through the parking lot. One haircut and a VERY hairy lollipop later, the entourage emerged and again made it through the parking lot where they proceed to Sam's to buy...you guessed it-diapers!! (Exciting news day) The entourage arrived safely back home where the mother did a little happy dance and patted herself on the back for a job well done.

Now, I do realize this seems like a small accomplishment compared to say, Lori Oldknow's crew of 5 or Mrs. Day's crew of 5 or even my mom's crew of 3 but today, for me, this is my accomplishment. One more checked item that proves to me that yes-I can handle these two children and actually do ok! Now, both my children are sleeping and all is quiet....for now.

IN OTHER NEWS: MADELINE DAY IS OFFICIALLY A HUMAN BEING. The "stump" fell off and she has a pretty little "innie". Her daddy as threatened incarceration if that belly button gets pierced in the next 30 years

9 lbs and 3 oz. She also had lots of hair-which I was so excited about!! When she first came out I thought she was going to be fair skinned like her brother but it looks like she is going to have dark hair and dark eyes....She is a GREAT baby and Spencer is doing a great job as "big brother" He calls her "baby" and wants to love on her all the time!

Treyvon, another kindergartener at school: "No you don't. MENS can't have babies in their bellies. Only WOMENS!"

Me: "Let's talk about CATEGORIES!! Tell me three things you can eat!" (changing the subject)

I had this shirt on last week and ran into a coworker's daughter. The daughter went back to her mother and said, "that's the biggest flower garden I've ever seen!"

This time next week-I will have two children. The time has come, it's the final countdown. Am I excited?? So much so that I can't stand it... Am I a little scared-well petrified really...Am I awed at God's great blessings?? Absolutely-how could Michael and I possibly deserve to have TWO gifts from God?? Our baby girl will be here-not just any little girl but Madeline Elizabeth Day born on May 15th (probably)-Maw-Maw's birthday and the day that Michael's parents started THEIR lives together...how could she NOT be the most special little girl in the whole world??
But for one more week, I have one child, that precious little boy asleep upstairs right now. I went to put him down for a nap and it turned into a 30 minute tickle fest and I thought about little boys and what they are made of. So what are little boys made of?? Frogs and snails..maybe but Spencer is made of so much more. He's made of love and wonderment for the world. He's made of happiness and giggles and lightness and innocence. He thinks roly polys are the COOLEST thing EVER and that an orange Popsicle is the most delish thing he has ever put in his mouth. HE LOVES BEING OUTSIDE...especially with his daddy. Picking up sticks and moving rocks. He loves his "goggies" (Hailey and Hershey). He's full of thoughts-not just little thoughts but big, deep thoughts that make his little forehead crinkle. He's full of curiosity-wants to know how things work and won't stop until he figures them out. He can be full of stubbornness and testing the limitness but a little of that is not a bad thing in my book.
I find that I just want to hold him, to tell him that it's going to be alright. Yes, the baby is coming and she will take up some Spencer time but it's going to be OK....he will be the big brother and I know that he will show us and Madeline all the wonderful things he is made of. I love ya-Spencer James Day, my wonderful boy.

For those of you interested....I went to the doctor yesterday and there as been no change since last week. A week ago monday I was attacked by a horrific stomach bug or food poisoning...not sure which but monday night and tues were NOT fun. I went to the doctor a week ago yesterday and I was 1.5 CM dialated-so we thought maybe it would be last week...well after getting rehydrated and back to the routine of things, all the contractions stopped and Madeline seems to be a happy clam in there....so unless something changes rapidly between now and next week-I think we are actully going to make it until May 15th!!
In the panic that she was actually going to come last week-I went ahead and cleaned out the baby car seat (we call it the baby bucket!) and Michael put in the car. When Spencer got in the car monday morning...he looked over at it and then looked at me with his little forehead crinkled up. I said, "That's where Madeline is going to sit when she comes." He looked again and then looked at me and said, "Ok-baby seat" Pure genius I tell you.....maybe he is starting to get the picture! :)

Time of Change

So I know that it's been ANOTHER month since I posted anything here and again-I'm sorry and I know no one really wants to listen to me-they just really want to see pictures. I promise this weekend-pictures will get posted. My, oh my, how time flies and how life changes so quickly...we have been very busy trying to get ready for Madeline, moving Spencer over to his "big boy" room and celebrating Spencer's 2nd birthday and Easter. Madeline's nursery is done-we just have to put up her clothes and organize her closet (it's that the story of life of a woman??). I must say that I am very impressed with Michael's paint job and my delegation of work! Michael did such a great job painting and putting up the BABY chandelier-yes, I did say chandelier-but it's just so perfect in there. Anyway-I wander into to that room after Spencer's asleep and think-did WE really create this pretty room?? I'm kinda of impressed...seems like it was yesterday when I was waiting for Spencer to get here and I would just sit in his room and dream about him....I can't wait to meet my daughter.
Spencer is doing fantastic...I was so nervous about moving my baby boy over to a new room but he is adjusting just fine and seems to love jumping in his bed at night. He is so funny right now-imitating words and forming his own "opinions".
Michael is plowing ahead with graduation school and making GREAT grades. I think he's decided that he never, EVER, wants to paint another nursery.
And me-well-I went to the doctor yesterday for my 34 week check up and after talking about baseball and going to different baseball parks-I asked my OB how I was measuring and his reply was "BIG-your belly measurement is 40 weeks!" So, needless to say-I don't think we are going to make it to May 15th but I'm going to do my best.

Well, we finally got some snow this year and boy did we get some snow. I'd say there was about 3 inches in our front yard. Spencer enjoyed it in small burst. When he got to cold or wet-he was ready to go in. Hailey, on the other hand-LOVED IT!

Good Grief-has it really been a MONTH since I posted anything?? I know all of you having been holding your breath to find out what has been happening to our family! :)
It's been a pretty fun month. These are just some pictures that we have taken from the last month. We got to visit with Elmo. Spencer was more interested in the Thomas the train set at the toy store than with Elmo. He was a little leery as you can see from the pictures. Since Christmas-the highchair has gone away and Spencer is sitting at the table like a big boy. Don't even ask about the cheerleading outfit!!! And finally-the big event: My mom was queen of my dad's mardi gras crew: Le Cavelier's. Mom looked absolutely stunning and we all had such a great time. To see more pictures-click on Annie Barclay or Anna Lauren Calvert. Anyway, those events have kept us pretty busy!
This weekend, I started searching for material for Madeline's nursery!!! Loved looking at all that pink and green! So, we are getting ready for that and also all the upcoming birthdays. Spencer has really started talking and expressing himself. His new favorite word is "mommy" and he has figured out that it gets him pretty much anything he wants!!
I do keep thinking that this period of our lives is quickly coming to an end and I worry a little about having time and energy for two kiddos. How much time will I have to hold Spencer, to play cars with him, to read him his stories at night? So, forgive me if another month goes by and you are again holding your breath-I'm just soaking in some quiet moments with my precious little man...

So, it's Sunday morning. Spencer and I are still in our PJ's being lazy and I am flipping through the channels. I narrowed the field down to two: Snapped(a show on the Oxygen Channel about women who have "snapped" and killed their significant other)or this beautiful movie "My dog Skip" based on the even more beautiful book of the same title by Willie Morris. Everyone reading this blog should know by now that I am a dog lover and swear that I will have a dog until the day I die. Anyway-I have seen this movie before so I know the story but I just couldn't turn away. Now, I HIGHLY recommended that if you are pregnant, the least bit hormonal-DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! Michael came downstairs to find me holding on to Hailey for dear life, WEEPING uncontrollably with Spencer running around the room with 10 hot wheels in his hands saying "bye doggie! bye doggie!" It truly is a beautiful film and makes you appreciate those wonderful creatures that we call dogs....
Take our Hailey for example-she is Spencer's best friend, his wrestling partner, his post to lean on and sometimes his tackling dummy. Spencer is Hailey's boy and she loves him so much. I can see many nights down the road where Hailey will find a new place to sleep-right beside her boy. Hailey comes from a bloodline of champion show dogs and could be show dog herself but I think she is exactly what she wants to be-Spencer's beloved "doggie"!

PS...yes, Spencer did pick his nose in the video!! Such a talented boy...

So tomorrow Michael and I have to return to work-BOO! But we have had a fantastic Christmas break-so I guess we can't complain. Spencer is really starting to imitate and use words and it thrills me to no end! He is also starting to put two words together like "bye doggie" and "hi doggie" Notice a trend with the doggie?? He FINALLY said "mommy" the other day. It continues to amaze me how quickly he picks things up. Simple things-like blowing a horn. It's just amazing! Anyway-he is a video of Spencer "feeding" the doggies. He loves to help these days. Michael and I thought it was cute! By the way-we call milk bones "cookies" in our house! :)

Christmas has been so much fun this year! Santa had so much fun making toys for Spencer and getting them all set up and we had so much fun watching Spencer play with all of his new toys. We went to the Varisty for lunch on Christmas Eve with the Oldknow crew and the Thorntons. We then went to church with Big Daddy, Grandmommy, Aunt Shannon, Uncle Joel, Aunt Ashley, Uncle Greg, Jacob, Parker and Hope. Then everyone came over to our house for chili. Big Daddy and Grandmommy came over to watch Spencer come down the stairs and see what Santa brought. Spencer was a little unsure of new Elmo and his dinosaur but LOVED his new garage/cars (of course!) Aunt Kate, Uncle Jim and James came over for breakfast and then we went over to the Day's house for lunch and more presents. Today (12/26) we rested!! Here are some pictures from the last few days! Maroon and Pink

So...we've had a pretty exciting weekend. We found out Thursday that Spencer is going to have a little sister!! A little girl....I can't wait!! On Friday night Michael and the Tucker tigers beat the Marist eagles to win the GA AAAA state championship! Saturday we had a christmas party and today we went to see Santa. We got the traditional "baby screaming because he is terrified of Santa" picture....yeah, memories! Anyway-I'm exhausted but so proud of Michael and his accomplishment this year and so excited about my baby girl...I'm sure I'll have visions of pink sugarplums dancing in my head for many nights.....
Oh yeah-that boy that lives here-well he continues to make us smile!

Alive and Kicking....

Yes we are....still here and alive and kicking. Things have been just very busy since my last post. We went to Gulfport for Thanksgiving (without Michael b/c he was coaching football) and had a GREAT time! I got to see all the cousins on my mom's side and Spencer got to hang out with his cousins. It was very exciting b/c my sister announced that she is pregnant and going to have a baby 8 weeks after we do!! So this next round of cousins will be just as close as Spencer, James and Anna Lauren. I do have some pictures from Thanksgiving that will eventually get posted....
We have an exciting weekend coming up. I go to the doctor tomorrow to find out what we are having! YEAH! On friday night, Michael will be coaching in his second high school state championship game in the GA dome! Go Tucker Tigers! Saturday we have a christmas party and then sunday we are going to visit "the big guy with the red suit"! Can't wait to see how Spencer reacts to that!
So friday I'll be wearing pink or blue.....stay tuned!

So, yesterday during the Ole Miss/LSU game-Spencer brought me one of Hailey's toys(a relatively clean one) and just sort of looked at me. I shook it and showed him how it worked and tried to give it back to him. He refused to take it back and just sort of looked at me. I threw it across the room and the rest is documented below....being the model parents that we are, Michael and I found Spencer's actions EXTREMELY funny and made him do it again so we could record it and share it with all of you!! Again-the toy was relatively clean.....

This past weekend Kate and I took the boys over to Jackson to see Matt, Mandi and Anna Lauren. The kids had a blast. We kinda of overtook their house and the kids played and played. I so wish Jackson was closer to Atlanta because we just don't get to see Matt, Mandi and Anna Lauren enough. Here is a short video of the monkeys imitating each other and trying to figure out how to get into trouble. I suspect there will be many more of these "moments" as the kids get better.

Today we had the neigborhood halloween party and it was so much fun as usual. James came to play and the boys were adorable!!! Spencer actually won first place in his age group for his turkey costume!!! Duece Day!! Yep-here comes baby day #2!! We went to the doctor this past tuesday and everything looks good-strong heartbeat and measuring right a good size. These pictures are a little off. He/She was not in the perfect position but He/She is a BEAUTIFUL baby blob!! I did tell my OB that I have been pretty sick with this pregnancy but not with Spencer and he said that in his experience that means this baby is the opposite sex from the first pregnancy! We shall see!! So enjoy these beautiful baby blob pictures-there will be more to come!

Pumpkin Patch

Today we took Spencer to the Pumpkin Patch to pick out some pumpkins. This "pumpkin patch" has really grown and has lots of things to see and do. Spencer got to touch some bunnies...I was a little afraid to let him in the area for fear he would start tossing them around like he does with George. He also got to see a horse. You can see from the picture that he was thrilled with that! But we managed to get some good pumpkins and even made some new friends while we were there. There was this sweet little boy there named James. James is 11 months old and his mommy is going to have a baby in January! (Brave woman!) Anyway-Spencer noticed that James had a big red wagon like his and he decided to climb on in. When James decided to also climb into HIS OWN WAGON, Spencer protested!! After some negotiation (and apologies from me!) we got James in and both boys enjoyed a ride. It was a fun, fall day!

AAAHHHH Friday...the end of another work week or in our case the end of stomach virus week. Spencer is finally feeling better and all of his "plumbing" is getting back to normal. I must say that I learned alot this week about stomach virus's and little kids and life in general. The following are things that I will stash in my ever expanding "will learn from my mistakes and GROW as a person" file:
1. When the doctor (and your own mother) says clear liquids for 24 hours-that's REALLY what they mean. NO SOLID FOOD. Not even a bite of cracker when your 18 month old is so hungry that he is hanging out the doggie door and eating leaves on the back porch. ROOKIE MISTAKE, ROOKIE MISTAKE
2. The BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) diet will probably be Spencer's favorite meal b/c it was the first foods in a week that didn't make him cry. Now, why haven't I heard of that before-in my 10 years with working with babies-no one every told me that! Just like that don't tell you that you might lose a organ after you have a baby (gallbladder!).
3. Spencer will NEVER like purple jello (see previous blog).
4. Pedialite is gross. All flavors at all temperatures...Spencer agrees.
5. Spencer will only drink grape gatorade-but NO jello....
6. Curious George is Spencer's best friend.
7. Being a working mom is tough and sometimes heartbreaking but you do the BEST YOU CAN and as Ericca put it "Kelly, your best is damn good!" Thanks my sister Ebony-you have shown me the light once again...now get busy so we can tackle having 2!

By the way-my mom is one of the smartest people I know. Clear liquids for 24 hours, let people run their own business and you can't fix everything-Got it! Thanks, mom!
So, turn out the lights-this party's over. Now, where is that Curious George monkey????

Purple Blob

Mrs. Anne (Spencer's nanny) needed the day off today so Spencer and I got to spend the day together! Spencer is recovering from a nasty stomach bug and seems to be on the mend but poor thing, he has been SICK. Meme suggested we try some jello. After trying SEVERAL flavors of Gatorade-we found that Spencer likes the purple Gatorade the best. So I thought he would enjoy purple jello. The following two videos are of him investigating some jello (purple blobs). I did manage to get one bite in him and looked like a wet dog shaking off water-he did this whole body shake and spit it out. Again-why couldn't I get THAT on video.... What I did manage to get was Spencer saying "cookie"!!! Being the speech therapist that I am, we turned the camera off to practice. The second video is more "cookie" moments. My child is a genius (beside the fact that he refused to say Meme!) He is such a turkey...

He is so smart. I can actually ask him to go get me something and he will retrieve it with a BIG smile on his face. Mrs. Anne (his nanny) said that I should have 4 more babies just like Spencer!!!

This past weekend-I was laid up with a sinus infection. I felt so horrible that I pretty much laid on the couch all day Sunday. Michael was doing football stuff-so it was mostly me, Spencer and the dogs. I learned that even though Hailey (the Golden) is VERY smart-she did not understand my simple steps to changing a poopy diaper. Spencer was a real trooper though, he played alot and would randomly come and poke me to make sure I was still alive. I must give myself the "mother of year" award b/c after several attempts at poking me, Spencer gave up and tried to "talk" his way into the frig for some lunch. He was standing in the kitchen, hanging on the door to frig and I guess trying to figure out the secret password b/c he sure was talking....now why didn't I get THAT on video??/

Today was a good day! Hope Elizabeth Norman made her grand entrance into the world today. The proud parents are Ashley (Michael's sister) and Greg Norman and they couldn't be more amazed by their daughther. She weighed 7 lbs and 3.5 oz and was 20 in long. Well-it's that time of year again. Can I get an AMEN??? Football season is upon us and I'm so excited. I love it-I love friday night football, I love SEC football on saturday and I love watching a FEW teams in the NFL. Spencer sat down and watched part of the Florida game with his Daddy today and I suddenly saw into the future of many saturdays of Michael and Spencer watching football, talking football, sharing the love of football-what fun! "Well there's a feeling in the air. Just like a friday afternoon..." Anybody remember that song by Better than Ezra?? See if you can find it and just try not to reminisce about football weekends..
I am very excited because at this very moment the Ole Miss Rebels having a WINNING record!!! This is exciting stuff considering what happened the last couple of years in Oxford. FORWARD REBELS. We can do it-we can make it to a bowl game maybe even the Sugar Bowl (maybe I'm getting ahead of myself)....
My only question: Why in the hell is MS state on TV tonight and Ole Miss is NOT??

The calm after the storm....or maybe before???

As you can see from the previous blog, Spencer was attacked by a giant can of peas last Thursday. Well, a few days later he dropped a mint julep cup on the SAME toe. Both grandmas said "maybe you should leave shoes on that boy!" Thanks.
Anyway-this past Wednesday I got a call from Mrs. Anne saying that Spencer had a fever and I needed to come get him. That was at noon and all went downhill from there....I've never seen him so miserable-all he wanted was to snuggle with a warm body. We went to the doctor and he just had a really sore throat. I'm thankful that it wasn't his ears or strep throat but he really was miserable. Last night and today he has been much better...back to being Spencer and not so miserable. So all is well again-for awhile at least.
I find myself thinking alot about the MS Gulf Coast and hoping for the best with the big storm that might be coming that way. I think about the couple of hurricanes that I witnessed. I remember Eliana(?) and walking outside with my Dad while the eye of the storm passed over us and then the pile of debris on our front yard that was higher than our house. I also remember a storm that toppled over a tree in our backyard that we played on for years. Then, I remember the night after Katrina and listening to my mom cry as I read her some of the news reports that we were getting in Atlanta. I remember going home a few days after Katrina-to the devastation of the coastline. There was nothing left-I mean NOTHING. For you Georgians-imagine how weird it would be if Stone Mt suddenly disappeared..I remember how COMPLETELY exhausted my dad was trying to clean up and secure the house and how happy my parents were to get back into their house. The three year anniversary of Katrina is Monday and ALOT has happened in my life-the joy of Spencer and of my niece and nephew, the heartache of losing Daisy and then the joy of getting Hailey and the ups and downs of the last year. And then I think about all those people who's lives stopped that day in 2005 and for many-life hasn't started again. (Meme is fixing that, though!!! Go Meme!!) Anyway, it's late and I'm rambling but my thoughts are on the coast, my prayers are for those that are trying so hard to rebuild. I just pray that everyone is safe and that this storm will have mercy. But then again trying to "reason with hurricane season" is as easy as finding a sober freshman in the student section at Vaught Hemingway on Saturday. So, though I considered Atlanta my second home, my heart belongs to the Gulf Coast. I guess I'll always be a "coast rat" and hurricanes are a part of life and you learn from them and try to prepare for the next one. So, I'll prepare by praying for the storm to weaken and that everyone I love will be safe....I do know one thing-if Jim Cantore shows up in your backyard-you better run!!!

So, tonight we exprienced what it's like to see your child hurt-I mean REALLY hurt. Spencer was helping me fix dinner-he likes to take the cans out of the pantry and then put them back. Well, a big can of English peas slipped out of his hand and landed directly on his big tongue. Now, we all know how bad that hurts...can you imagine what a 17 month old must think-he doesn't even know any curse words to say to make it better. We had to have a grandparent consult-so Big Daddy came to comfort and then Grandmommy came to make sure Spencer was still alive....We all survived...Spencer is sleeping (thanks, children's motrin!), I have had a drink and that can of peas will now go on a higher shelf! I wanted to post these pictures tonight so that people would actually believe my excuse for not going to PTA tonight at school!

As you can see from these videos-Spencer is not crazy about "chores" yet. He does like to help unload the clean dishes and lick all the dishes as they come out of the diswasher...so we have opted to let him skip that chore for awhile!! He can now find his head, his tummy and his ears. He signs: more, open and eat and does a very good impression of me telling him "no!" by shaking his head back at me! What a character this one is.....

Spencer has taken to carrying around the musical part of a ring stack toy. We get hear that delightful music ALL day long!! As a matter of fact, while uploading this video (and a brief moment of silence as Spencer had forgotten where he left his music maker)Spencer heard the music from the video and ran to look for his beloved music machine. He is getting smarter by the day!!!! Notice Hailey in the vidoe-she has managed to tune out the music and sleeps through anything!

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a "tootsie pop"??? Anyone remember that funny old owl from those commercials?? Well....that owl has come to visit us a few times this summer. We named her Tootsie and she is REALLY cool to see in person. And yes-they can turn their head ALL the way around!!! These pictures were taken from our deck and she was sitting in the tree closest to our house. She likes to perch right above a hallowed out tree where a family of chimpmunks live....but we won't think about WHY she perches there...
