This weekend has just been incredible. Friday night we went to American Cancer's Relay for Life. This beautiful event takes place every May and every May I am touched by what I see. The Gwinnett County Relay is the biggest in the country and there are always thousands of families that come out to take part in the event. The past two years we have been there to see Big Daddy (Michael's Dad) walk in the Survivor's Walk. This is the event that kicks off the Relay and to me it is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. You will see breast cancer survivors, kids with leukemia, young and old in wheelchairs and people that are walking "in honor of" or "in memory of". EVERY SINGLE person walking has a smile of determination on their face. After it gets dark, the luminaries that line the track are lit and a set of bagpipers makes a couple of rounds for all those that have been lost to cancer. It is a moving experience to say the least....
I have attended this event for several years with my school and I must say this year was a bit different with a 13 month old. Couple of things I learned: 1)Spencer is quit the dancer! Crank up "Friends in low places" and watch him go... turn on "I like big butts" and he says NO THANK YOU! Obviously, we need to expand his musical tastes 2)It is NOT humanly possible to pick every weed flower thing in a 50 mile radius to prevent it from going in the mouth...note to self: big a blanket.
On Saturday, Spencer took his first trip to the zoo!! We had so much fun and there are a few pictures attached. We went with cousin James and our friends the Pitra's (Nancy, Molly and Liam). We got to ride on a train and spend lots of time outside. Something that is so cool-you can SPEND THE NIGHT AT THE ZOO!! I think that is so fun and will definitely be checking into that as Spencer gets older. Enjoy all the animals, especially the "kangaroos"....
